Trying out new caller

Here's a couple of Dog Fox's from last night.

Both were going into a new caller i bought from weston, i decided to bite the dust and thought long and hard about the advantages with the remote controlled callers against my Ipod station, which i cannot complain about its ability its called in quite a few since i started with it and maybe i may take it out now and again to compare the 2. I spent some dosh on a ICOtech call from bestfoxcall it said to have a 300mtr range using the remote, i only put the call out to around 150yds or so. It was the volume control i was after, something i had no control over with the Ipod.

Anyway the caller was place into the centre (ish) of the stubble field i parked the pickup in a corner infront of a hedge and this time down wind(i had a blond moment the other night, watched a fox come in to my Ipod only to give it a good waft of my "Brut" after shave. the wind was blowing a good un from behind it didnt hang about)

After around 20 minutes i had a quick look round with the Archer off the rifle, bloomin eck that didnt take long there was one coming in from behind and to the left of me 150 yards and closing pretty fast, i mounted the archer to the scope grabbed my bit of carpet (it makes moving the rifle on the roof very quiet) together with the rifle carpet down on the tailgate a little muffled cough the Fox stopped and off went a 53grn Vmax,It was a big dark Dog Fox one of the biggest ive seen on this permision i didnt hear the impact as it was so close. No exit wound but the Fox was history, the sound as i picked it up was like a sports bag full of wet sponge's.

I cracked open a can and sat on the back of the pickup and had a play with the caller, changing the calls and the volume.

There was nothing for quite some time that was until i changed to a rodent squeak type call and soon had another Fox going into the caller, this was from front right from 300yds plus, coming from just over a brow of a small hill It kept stopping for just seconds not long enough for a shot but all the time it was closing the gap then it sat down this was the oppertunity for the shot, its hard to judge distance using night vision but my guess was around the 170yrd mark so side on chest shot bang another 53grn Vmax on the way, this time i hear the strike, the Fox turned full circle its head raised its back end down, then all had sunk under the hight of the stubble within a couple of seconds, another one in the bag.

All in all a good night i was pleased with my new purchase. A well deserved pint was soon to follow, a text to the farmer and all done for the night

Well done Dougy!!Two nice Foxes there! As well as the new caller do you like your Archer NV unit?

Very good, but the firefly might get removed and swapped for a led I find it draws attention from the fox's, Ive had 3 bolt now out of 5 nights out but they don't see anything from the NM800ir.

good shooting there douglas, ime thinking of getting an electric caller my self,so the fox runs to the caller in the middle of the field while your at the side watching all the action ready for a shot.sounds good stuff that as ime always used to the fox coming to me, which isn't all the time but some times ha ha,cheers simon....
