foxbasher Posted September 22, 2013 Report Share Posted September 22, 2013 Just got deer permission on about 20 acres of quite dence woodland, most of it is up and down so more backstops than you could shake a stick at. The roe that are in there are pretty relaxed and because of the layout and growth, its quite easy to stalk to within 50 yards of them if you keep an eye on the wind. At these sort of ranges, could anyone recomend a better cal than the bog std .243. Seems a little overkill to me. Would any of the shorter levergun cals come up to scratch as being deer legal? activeviii Posted September 27, 2013 Report Share Posted September 27, 2013 I have just bought a new gun just for the same reasons. I bought a combi gun. 12g/7x57r. Nice and light. Easy to use and best of all I can shoot pigeon and squirrels if the fallow arnt playing. One thing to watch is the roe will very quickly catch on. Once you start pushing them around and knocking a few over they will get wise and you might need a bit more scope.
