Go with one of the Orkney based guides neillfbs then you wont get in any bother , a lot of local guns getting fed & resentful of some of those guides from the mainland who have just jumped on the band wagon , I don't guide but there are 2 BASC guides & Rob Frampton so there is some choice . I just heard from a farmer at the end of my lane that some idiots from south upset a field of cattle & almost drove em through the fence the other evening . inquirys are being made as the 4x4 was seen there at the time , some think they did not have permission to be there . Go with one of the locals & you wont get in any bother with the farmers , local shooters or the law or the RSPB & have a nice trip & stay . ayano3
There seems to be more trouble in the Orkneys than in Syria, is it really worth going ?? Not that I wish to go, just after all I read on here.

Its not that bad really just that in a small place things get blown out of proportion a wee bit, as Pole Star says stick to a decent guide and ( and there are quite a few) and you'll have a great time.Plenty for the family to do as well. Orkney recently came second as a world cruise ship destination beaten only by Port Everglades Miami ! Unbelievable but true, must have been wind rain and midges that knocked us of the top spot . HP. Update on that Black 4x4 happy plinker news is they were free loaders & the cattle did go through the fence & they did not have permission to be there , expect they were out on the ferry next morning . Sooner or later some thing will happen & this kind of thing makes it bad for those who live here just like goose dumping dose . The sooner some of these free loaders get nicked & I get it put in the Shooting Times & Countrymans Weekly again the better & then maybe the penny will drop & they wont come here . ATB Free loaders note this Armed Trespass & Poaching is an offence in Orkney just like in the rest of the UK .
