dog eating lead shot

hi all any advice please shot a pigeon today with shot gun and cut of the breast out in the field to take home for my two westies chopped and cooked it for a treat but later it came to my mind did it have any shot in it i just did not think or check if it did would one or two bits do and damage

I wouldn't worry. It will go straight through their digestive systems, and you need regular amounts of lead over a very long time to have any adverse effects.

 

I'm sure some people may disagree with me, but I'd be more worried about them being hit by a car or something.

 

PS, I have a westie too! I wouldn't have a problem feeding him those pigeons.

It is quite possible for lead shot to remain in the digestive system for long periods and one pellet is all it would need to result in raised levels of lead in the blood resulting in the typical symptoms of lead poisoning.
