  1. Mine froze yesterday morning, I freed off the driver's side handle with warm(not boiling) water from the kettle and used the key lock to gently ease the lock. I poured the water onto the solid handle part surrounding the lock barrel, took a couple of minutes to free off. Hope this helps, BB

  3. "but on stubbles who needs pest control ? I wish shooters were more happy to just be out there in with the wild life." The reason stubble is needed is because it's generally an effective place to attract birds to, without causing damage to crops, surely not too difficult to grasp? Yesterday, in unfavourable conditions, fitful gusts or no wind, out of the 14 birds bagged, 11 of them had their crops stuffed full of wheat/barley, which sort of illustrates that the stubbled area is not the crop area we are attempting to protect but the crops in the next field and beyond. Yes, I enjoy being out at any time of the year, "wildlife" to give it the countryfile tag, seen yesterday amongst others, were Roe Deer, Brown Hare, Barn Owl, Kestrel, Skylark, Buzzard and Red kite all adding to the enjoyment of the day. Looking forward to a good meal tonight, pigeon breasts of course, pest control perks.
  4. I'm not going to, go there..........
  5. During the 1960's I can't say I remember seeing them, maybe they were mis-identified at that time and lumped in as "ferals"?
  6. Last Saturday I had stock doves visit, commit and land throughout the day,2 on one occasion wandered around the pattern for several minutes appearing to be mesmerised by the magnet and flapper movement. If only the woodies were so willing!!
  7. Just 3 on Saturday, coming to feed on the last of the ivy berries in the hedge-line; 1927+3 = 1930
  8. Do you mean " The Dog's Dinner" by Ann Ridyard? I have no connection with it, it's just that I couldn't find your recommendation as listed above.
  9. I agree, it would not be an exaggeration to say that throughout West London, Surrey, East Berkshire and parts of Buckinghamshire that the population is in the tens of thousands and is firmly established the numbers increasing year on year and moving gradually westwards. I have worked in and around Staines/Heathrow for over twenty six years or so and every morning and evening witness, their very swift flight movements, as flock after flock scream along the contours of the several reservoir embankments in the area to and from their roosts. Yes, they are impressive, but they are as others have mentioned, non-native and are having an adverse impact in a variety of ways. Unfortunately, I’m unable to shoot them from any local permissions as yet, but that may change in early part of next year. Woodpigeons, are I think attractive to look at but they’re still a pest to be controlled. Parakeets, regardless of their appearance IMHO are exactly the same.
  10. If this is an early model Focus with key barrel access to both front doors, try locking/unlocking from either side and observe if all the interior handles move when either door lock is turned to lock/unlock. This may indicate if a door latch fault is present and which one, ie one handle/latch not moving when the other latches move. Hope this makes sense?
  11. Very Interesting Link, I knew some Woodpigeon were long lived, but hadn't realised 17+ yrs was possible.....
  12. We used to keep an old wooden sailing boat on a bankside mooring and it would be over-run with spiders, an old salt said "You needs conkers to get them *******" tried it and it worked very well. No idea about the chemistry involved, presumably chesnut trees don't have spiders on them?
  13. I've been using one of these for the last few weeks together with an older darker lightweight net and so far it has not presented any problems. I walk and carry my kit mostly to where I set up, so the less bulky the better. I peg it down around the base if the wind gets up with metal tent type pegs, lean the odd small branch, straw or whatever is lying around against it to help blend it in. I can sit upright quite comfortably without crouching and can look through the net easily enough without bobbing up and down. So far, the birds aren't being spooked by me or the net. It's light to carry, packs away easy and not really high cost. It works for me, each to his own.
  14. Ahhh, that would explain it ! Look forward to seeing how many miles you do.
  15. Are you sure about the number of litres? 55 litres @ £69 works out at about £1.25/litre; Hereabouts it's about £1.39/ litre. £69 would buy 49.6 litres. You need to be sure of the figures to get a realistic cost per gallon or per litre. BB,
  16. Well apart from the suspect maths above, I reckon the figure should be 11,993
  17. Don't mean to be picky, but shouldn't that be 11854? Add 6 Saturday on wheat stubble, = 11860
