For the cost of getting the full choke bored out to half or less (about £35) you would then still have a cheap SxS that you could then use standard steel loads through though. Heck if it is sound you could be tempted to shoot any 3", myself and thousands of other wildfowlers do. It cant carry steel proof because it wasn't even available at the time guns like this were built. fallowbuck Posted November 9, 2013 Report Share Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) Yes but if you use the high velocity steel shells like Eley Lightning Steel the pressures are higher and outside CIP limits that's why the new guns have the Fleur-de-Lys proof mark .As you know serious damage can be done if fired through too tight a choke,half/modified being the accepted maximum.The bottom photo shows superior steel proof marks for 89mm/3.5 inch chamber but would be same for 76mm/3 inch chambered steel proofed shotguns.
