rapid basher
Right were do I start. Two years ago I applied For a hmr /22lr/ and a 243 for fox I got granted the 22lr and 17hmr they would only Grant me a 243 under mentoring conditions. Which I turned down has I did not have anyone to mentor me I now have lots a permissions with roe deer on now And would like a c/f What would be the best options 4/5 stalks with written letters of approved Stalkers with a odd picture throwed in? Or a dsc1 which I don't want to do has I am not best of readers and Spellers As you can see from lots of my past posts lol By the way this would be under avon and somerset And have herd that mentoring conditions have stopped Edited November 17, 2013 by rapid basher
Paul T
You've got 2 years rimmy experience now and you have land with deer on it, so there's no reason why they shouldn't grant a .243 as you have good reason & experience. I'd just put in for it with a letter of permission from the landowner, assuming he still has the deer rights and not sold them on...? That said, I've done the DSC1 and would really recommend it. You aren't marked on reading or spelling, but it does teach you a lot more about the deer species and their management. I think it was well worth the money and it can only aid the granting of a deer calibre rifle in the long run. As I understand it, mentoring conditions have stopped everywhere. Elby
Best get a mentor. If not do the DSC1. There's no point of law saying you have to and if you appeal against a decision you will win and they know it. You will be tied up without your ticket for about a year while you appeal though. Elby
Use your mentor, after 3 months he/she can write a letter in saying you're competent and their name is removed.

apache
There are lots of level 1 providers some will do a 2 day course over a weekend. You can do assessment only and learn the stuff yourself (as I did) but you might find it easier with some teaching. Honestly anyone serious about shooting deer then the Level 1 is a no-brainer. You will learn loads and you need a trained hunter number if you want to sell meat into the food chain.
