I'me looking to buy a hard case with a foam lining for my new air rifle, but have been told that the foam could react with the guns metal, is this fact or fiction, anyone? :good: B) :P

On discussing this with the local gun dealer, i was told to look in the hw100 manual, Quote; IMPORTANT NOTICE please ensure your gun is always placed in a plastic sleeve before packing it in a foam lined gun case, the foam lining in a case may react with any of the metal surfaces on this airgun. ?

Thats what it says................?

Fiction.

But never leave a rifle in a foam case as a means of storage. The lubricant you use will dry and may well stick the foam to the metal.

Foam will make a blued barrel look funny - marked - on removal. Just wipe with an oily rag and all will be well again.

Scratches from foam? :good:

Pretty certain its a myth. I have been using hard cases with foam for years. No problems.. but as said above dont store your gun in it, as moister trapped in the foam will cause rust spots. I have never had/heard of lubricant drying and glueing the foam to the gun either.

I have a plastic hard case and the foam is impregnated with anti rust bobbins.

I have had no problem at all. I agree that a case is not the best storage place but some circumstances dictate that is where it has to be kept. You can make it easier by wiping the metal down and using a NapierV90 (or whatever the number is!) patch in the case.
