I have never shot a rabbit witha shotgun and am told that if you do it will be battered beyond recognition and uneatable, is this true??

Shoot it with a 12g from less than 10yds, yes.

Hit it with the same gun at 20yds+, no.

If it's running and you judge your lead correctly most of the shot should be in the front half anyway and most of the meat will be undamaged.

We were out ferreting last week..............the bones do tend to break a lot..............not as clinical as an airgun pellet to the head...

but still............also bit more damage to the innards.......

When gutting and prepping they seemed to "stink" a bit more than normal....but that might just have been me...

I only tend to use the back legs and saddle,,,,,rest of it gets binne...............

my son goes clay shooting and his instructor uses a 30" trap gun for everything, from clays to game he has 3 quarter choke and quarter ckoke as his gun is fixed choke, he uses a 30g, 6's load out to 40yds for pheasants out of this gun, I am also thinking of getting a nice O/U so when I might go to a shoot I dont have to go in a semi-auto and get frowned uppon :good:
