adam f
At the moment my cocker rarely gets left for long in the house alone. Even when I'm working she comes with me and is in the car a lot of the day but she's fine as she's got company. Now I've just changed jobs and I won't be able to take her to work quite as much. I'm adding a kennel at home so she can toilet when left, but I'm wondering if another dog to keep her company would be a good idea? I've been toying with the idea of another anyway to avoid her having to work solo flat out all day, but what is the advice on 2 for company? Ollieollie
How old is your dog? And how well trained?
adam f
She is 2, and she's bang on, not far off field trail standard.
kent
Sounds like you looking at a dose of separation anxiety on its way regardless of a second dog! your going to have to work up to leaving that one in stages I fear
adam f
Ah, don't get me wrong she is absolutely fine being left, I take her with me because I can, but the second dog thing is more me being soft rather than anything else! kent
Ah, don't get me wrong she is absolutely fine being left, I take her with me because I can, but the second dog thing is more me being soft rather than anything else! So she is used to being left? should be fine then. Another dog is unlikely to help much if the dynamic is already there "you go out alone for long periods but always return safe". More likely is you change that dynamic and put a spanner in the works!
Marki
We have had real problems when introducing another dog, especially another bitch. It does break the routine and can distress the older dog causing fights. Not always obviously but it is something to consider. Our old lurcher was happy to be left on her own all day if necessary, she barely reacted when we walked through the door.
