Dougy
Strip the bolt clean it with solvents / petrol will suffice. Reassemble spray with a light oil / rust inhibitor and see what happens.
rem708
This is classic poorly seated primers. Most common cause is you not seating hard enough to ensure the primer contacts with the bottom of the pocket. Another cause is dirty primer pockets although with a 20% failure rate this is less likely. Try running a straight edge over the base of your reloads. This is not that an accurate method as primer pocket depth varies with brass manufacture and even within batches. If a primer is sticking proud at all then treat it with suspicion. Take it apart and try re-seating to see if it moves - NEVER try on a fully loaded round (common sense!) I've loaded 100's of thousands of Remington primers over the years and they have been as good if not better than others. I'm now using Rem BR primers which by all reports have a slightly harder metal but I've yet to find that formally documented anywhere. These are working just fine. If your primer seating checks out, then as mentioned previously, check your bolt/firing pin for a build up of debris. Don't need much to cause light strikes. Whilst I hate suggesting this - maybe dry fire 10 times or so before you try next time. Crud tends to be dispersed - albeit temporarily. Badly stored primers (damp) is another option but I'm sure you will know where you have kept yours. Dougy
I gave that tip from because of a previous issue whilst in a high seat after Fallow, 8 30.06 rounds piled up under the high seat, all click but no bang, and no Fallow were harmed that morning, it turned out to be probably a combination of **** and a high viscosity oil stopping of dampening the firing pin strike, a flush out with lighter fluid did the trick.
