Don't think I will be trying that with any of the long horned cattle on the Norfolk Broads area!

I think the key is training. You need your own Long Horn to train up.Just like you wouldn't take out any old dog with you. :good:

Do you recon it would work with a donkey, it could carry all the tackle as well :good:

As I see it, you hide behind whatever they are used to seeing that is self propelled and steerable. Be that Naturalists, Naturists or Livestock.

Abel Chapman, in his book 'Wild Spain' describe the use of a horse for the same purpose. It's where the term 'Stalking horse' comes from.

As an aside, he took a punt and gun to Spain, which was impounded by the Spanish Government/Navy as they classed it as a war ship.

Years ago in the Broads as a teenager with my mate the farmers son we managed to get within range of mallard sitting on a dyke bank by gently walking a towards them small herd of bullocks , keeping the bullocks between us and the birds. But in those days cattle were a lot more calmer , not the highly strung hybrids of today.
