Martin g
Has anyone bought one for foxing and how do you rate it? Most of my foxing is under 150 yds. Would like to here your reviews before I part with £470 even though its cheap for a NV set up.. Many thanks M
V8 90
£470 ? They're £399.00 I have 1 on an Hmr & it's ok out to around120yds - I personally wouldn't recommend them for Foxing out beyond a maximum of 150yds I have a Drone Pro 10x that I use for Foxing on a .204 it cost 4 x more than a Photon but it is well worth the extra, you can fit a doubler to the Photon. activeviii
Yes i use a photon with a doubler. its on the 222 but im having a problem with POI shift so need to test a bit more before putting on the 243. You need a better light souce, i use a T20 and it works very well I also have found a cheap DVR, dont know if it will work yet but it says it will. $28. so worth a punt. if it dosent then i can add a camera for a NV spotter so worth the playing with. bullet boy
Martin, sorry if I haven't any advice on the Photon but if you really want a good NV unit I would always recommend the brilliant Starlight Archer Gen 3 add-on if the Photon doesn't reach your range for shooting Foxes. Ok it's not cheap at £1669 but if you want a quality unit this is quality! I've accounted for a lot of Foxes using this fantastic unit. ATVB in whatever you choose. Martin g
The £470 includes pulsar x850Ir illuminator. ActiveII do you know if POI shift is a common problem..
Dave-G
The standard 5x42 is good enough for foxes at 150 yards without resorting to a doubler - which will of course avoid potential POI issues. Almost any low power or cheap LED IR can be used with it at that range - if you have a cheap ebay IR try it because you will be amazed how well the Photon sees minimal light. It losses its usefulness for 150 yard rabbit shooting because the centre dot of the reticle totally covers a rabbits head at about 130 yards - and the rabbit looks a bit small for a head shot at that range. activeviii
I think it was the doubler thats caused the POI shift, i took it off and adjusted the locking ring. once i have things sorted i will do a little messing with it on a 22lr and see if i can get it to shift, at least then i will know the cause. dont worry about the pulsar illuminator, more money spent thats not needed. a T20 with 840nm led will be more than you need. i can see well past the 300 meter range. one the recorder turns up i will try and get a recording of this. the longest i will normally shoot a fox with it is 100mters but saying that, the last one was 136mters with no problem what so ever.
