Dekers
I believe Anschutz still offers one in 14", most other manufacturers seem to stop at 16". Stolen from Varmint Als, make of it what you will! 22 inch = 2517 fps, 103 fps spread21 inch = 2523 fps, 66 fps spread20 inch = 2515 fps, 86 fps spread19 inch = 2538 fps, 83 fps spread18 inch = 2522 fps, 41 fps spread17 inch = 2505 fps, 43 fps spread16 inch = 2492 fps, 53 fps spread15 inch = 2477 fps, 27 fps spread14 inch = 2432 fps, 70 fps spread13 inch = 2419 fps, 32 fps spread12 inch = 2387 fps, 57 fps spread11 inch = 2338 fps, 45 fps spread10 inch = 2276 fps, 45 fps spread
Brad93
14 inch gives a good fps but a poor spread. 15" looks like the one to have But obviously certain barrels, bullets and twist will give different results. Dekers
14 inch gives a good fps but a poor spread. 15" looks like the one to have If you are looking at the table I am struggling with the logic of the fps spread on several of those. Gimlet
Surely spread has more to do with ammunition that barrel length?
Dekers
Surely spread has more to do with ammunition that barrel length? You would tend to think so, that potentially brings the validity of the whole table into question!
pmiddy
Andy just cut it down to 16 inch's and get a sm16 moderator or cut it down to 18 and use your hogan moderator Paul
Gimlet
You would tend to think so, that potentially brings the validity of the whole table into question! All these tables should be repeated using several makes of factory ammunition for comparison for the figures to be meaningful. The velocity drop is there or there abouts though. Tested on a chrono, my 14" Weihrauch shooting 17grn Winchester ammo averages 2480 fps with about 50 fps of spread if that's any help to anyone. In real life that equates to only about 1/2" more drop at 200 yds than you'd get from a 22" barrel, which isn't worth bothering about. Whether that effects accuracy I don't know. Perhaps someone should do a comparison between rifles of the same make with different barrel lengths. But I don't worry about that either. When its in the mood it still shoots better than I can.
