Cosd
I stupidly burnt out my Magtame speed controller last time out whilst having a blonde moment!! Plugged in the magnet switched it on and started rotating backwards. Instead of checking the connections to the magnet and switching those round I switched the battery terminals round and now it doesn't work. I've definitely burnt something out as there is an electrical burnt smell (it's not the fuse). I opened it up inside but there are no tell tale signs as to what is damaged. Is it ready for the dustbin or is there anything which I can do to fix it? Thanks Cos
fenboy
I would say its had it , the circuit is likely to have melted somewhere . Have a look and see if you can see any breaks in the silver lines on the board , if you can you may be able to solder to bridge the gaps. The speed controllers are so easily damaged I no longer bother and just run the magnet at full speed all the time , its just as effective. bakerboy
On some magnets you can move the connections from the terminals and it slows (or speeds) the magnet. Sorry to hear about the controller Cos, give me a day or so and I will see if I can find a spare.

Unfortunately +1 Diagnostics on PCBs can take a lot of time and can also be very frustrating, if a good visual inspection doesn't show up any obvious damage salvage what you can (arms etc) and buy a new one. Was just wondering if it can be fixed, plus something to tinker with in the garage whilst girls watching rubbish on TV
Brad93
It probably could be fixed but it would take time to find out what has melted and then obtaining said part and resoldering.
Brad93
For the cost of a new pwm controller off evil bay I would just buy a new one.
