pigeonblasterian
Went again today to the same place i shot yesterday. It was very cold and the wind had changed with a good breeze blowing from the side to start with. Got set up this morning about 0800 and within a few minutes had two birds with a right and left. I thought it was going to turn out to be a good day but it got colder with the wind really blowing. I had to anchor my hide poles with rope to stop them getting blown over. Worse thing was i had left my gloves at home in another jacket and my hands were freezing. It turned out to be a steady day but with not as many birds showing as i had hoped. The game keeper came for a chat and told me that the maize should be ploughed in within two weeks. We also watched as birds came out of the wood and flew onto another maize strip. He told me he would frighten them off when he went round on his quad. I was going to move but never saw them come back after he had frightened them. The wind changed again around midday blowing straight into my face. I stuck it out till 1530 and decided to make my way home to warm up. Ended up with 21 woodpigeon and 13 ferals. Fisherman Mike
I rarely shoot the same pitch 2 days running...I have always found the birds wary and skittish to be honest especially when there is plenty of other food about...leave it 3 or 4 days and I would be surprised if you didn't find a marked increase in birds.
