washerboy
After buying my 15 yr old son an air rifle.is it easier to learn with a. 177 then a 22. My first gun 30 yrs ago was a 22 and I have shot both calibres and can't seem to think anyone is easier.
chrisjpainter
This is covered pretty completely in the .22 or .177 thread! I don't think anything could be added that hasn't been put there. if you learn on a .22 you get to grips with range judging quicker i guess, but that could make for a frustrating early time and could put him off. On the other hand if you learn on a .177 it's easier with ranging because of the flatter trajectory, but then could instil less accurate range-finding practice, should he come to .22 later on and you'd have to contend with having to predict wind more, which is less of a problem with .22. There's no definitive answer really.
