Gaining Permission

Looking at Mottys and Jdogs last two posts both of them shot excellent bags on new farms, which just go to show those chaps who are finding it hard to get land to go on there are places to go if you go about it the right way. Motty found where the pigeons were going, knew what the crop was they were feeding on, found the farmer and gained permission, shot a nice lot of pigeons, cleared up all cartridge cases ect and thank him when he had finished which then led him on in getting more land, the perfect way to go about things In Jdogs case it was most likely through recommendation, but not every one do things the same way, over the years we have gave different people pigeon shooting who have left rubbish behind, shot to near houses and live stock, left gates open and gone on land that wasn't what they asked to go on.so you can understand why farmers and land owners are reluctant to let complete strangers on there land with a gun, and if and when you do get the o k offer your services if you are skilled at any thing that might help them in any way or if not offer your labour at busy times you never know one day they might recommend you to there neighbours and the start in getting a lot of land have begun.

Sometimes luck can be on your side as well, a good friend of mine who is a electrician went to a farm to see if it would be o k to go on a pea field near his house one day, after about 10 minutes of talking my mate was getting the impression he was going to get a no no, just then his wife or his partner came out to say all the lights have just gone off and they are without power. As my mate had his van there he offered to have a look for the problem, after he went through the check out routine he found a mouse or something had chewed through the cable, after fixing a new bit of cable or a junction box job done, the farmer offered to pay for the job but my mate said a day after the pigeons would more than cover it, that was several years ago and he is still shooting the same farm to this day.
