thread cutting

It looks like I can't get a mag tube extension to fit my shotgun. I was thinking maybe I could get my standard mag tube cap drilled and tapped to take a Nordic components tube. Has anyone done it before? I think the thread is 1" x 32tpi. A tap is expensive so will probably have to pay someone to do it. any volenteers?

I doubt that 1" x 32 tpi is a standard tap and the one you suggest is only 1/4" bigger sizes cost a lot more .non standard can be very expensive for a single use job . That said it still needs to be drilled a tapped accurately not a job for the Black and Decker

Seems pretty typical price for one.

Probably would be best done on a lathe or at least a pillar drill to make sure the hole is straight.

Needless to say but I will anyway. I have neither.

That's a big hole, it should be possible to cut it on a lathe without a tap? I wouldn't even bother trying to mess about with an end cap - just get the right size tube and thread it to fit with a collar.
