hoggysreels
Well lve bit the bullet! For years gone by and after a very lengthy break from shooting and returning, lve been stalwartly of the opinion a rough shooter slowly moves across the fields in search of an opportunity. Having read so much about decoying and pretending to look like a gorsebush, whilst sitting in wait for pigeon to either land and make your day or fly overhead and sneer, wasn't initially that appealing to me ... but having read so much on here l thought l give it a go ...so lve bought the gear. I had a small camo net, to be honest it wasn't up to much. I bought off a guy on PW some bouncers, and shells "really nice fella" and he obviously knew his stuff ... today took delivery of a 5m three ply ghost camo net. So l intend on joining the static crew, well periodically .. cant ever see me stopping my rough shooting walk up shooting, it what l love doing, even if on balance its not as productive as the static method. Just got to pick up some Crow/Magpie decoys and see how things go ... the way things are going, l can see me shooting at clay plate next!! kiffy
hey theres nothing wrong with clays i was the same as you, coming from an airgun background where i always stalked the field then having years away from it all before getting my shotgun cert almost 2 years ago.. even then i was rough shooting until i got friendly with a neighbour of mine now i spend most saturdays behind a net... did buy a jack pyke bucket seat but found it uncomfortable especially as my noggin was sticking over the net so i had to crouch down so on the way home with a sore back one day i got myself a folding campoing chair from argos.. talk about comfort... i almost fell asleep at one point last weekend we usually use my mates old army nets which do the business but we have been talking about splitting up over a field to keep things moving so i have bought my own gear recently, not used it yet but the stealth net looks ****.. its so see through compared to the old army nets.. guess ill have to make sure i keep still when behind it Edited April 25, 2014 by kiffy
steve_b_wales
Take a look at Camoreal nets. They are excellent and seem to blend in with any backgrounds. Look at my post in Sporting Pictures (A Few Corvids) and you can see the net (although mine is a bit worse for wear) http://4wildlife.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=camerealscrim
hoggysreels
The ghost net arrived today ... will have a day out after the Crows asap .. lve some leave from work, so lm thinkng it would be rude not to ... lm actually thinking of using my golf trolley to transport all the gear .. its so far removed from my idea of rough shooting .. a wax jacket, moleskins, tweed cap, small shoulder bag and 12 bore single ... off l go! ... now its a logistical exercise lol
kiffy
that it is, i stil lrough shoot now and as you say you take nothing compared to a hide, seats, deoys, bouncer, flapper.. extra carts incase its a good day, which ive yet to have a really good day in a hide, my best day where i ran out of carts was on a roost shoot. all three of us ran out that evening and as we did the birds came in in droves
