28-32g 6-7.5 what powers/data are people using????

Recommended Posts

I presume the larger loads will be cleaner as they will have the larger amounts of powder and pressure to burn cleaner.

It is nothing to do with larger loads using more powder! Normally a larger load will ise LESS powder! It is more to do with finding the correct pressure, which will facilitate a clean clean burn! By simply chucking more powder in, without testing! you could increase the pressure to a dangerous level. If your following correctly published data, and falling way short of the mark, then perhaps you are substituting components? Even changes such as wads can affect the pressure in BOTH directions.

When I was starting out I was given data to load 24g loads using an old vectan powder! it fouled up the barrles and the delay between the bang, and a clay breaking felt like a season had passed. The powder I was using was SOLELY a 28g powder. I changed the data and now get 28g out at over 1300fps and a clean burn.

Having the correct data is crucial if your a newbie! stick with it until you build up a general knowledge of how it all works etc. Then perhaps you can create a few of your OWN and have them sent for testing!

If someone with 3 fingers gives you data! Bin it

As I am new to this .... does upping the powder that much not seem a little strange when the load data recommends 26grains? would it be better to find a more efficient powder.... I am asking this, not looking for an argument... I may be missing something thats all.

The data I had was for plastic wad and I needed I fibre wad load. So I increased the powder and got the load proofed at Birmingham Proof House to make sure is was in proof and safe to use. It would have been more economical to use different powder, but I normally use psb2 for 34/36g plastic wad so it saves me having to by different powders. The 32g load is running at around 1300fps in fibre wad so fine for the job.

in the future, you can ask on here. ask for good data for x grams of shot in an xx gauge.

you should be given alot, but the good data floats to the top.

As I have not been reloading for very long either my knowledge is slightly limited as-well but as cookoff013 has stated if you ask around and search you will find some really good data from some very knowledgeable people on here and shotgun world where cookoff also frequents.

I gathered lots of data together before I even bought any powder and primers even data from the 50's & 60's for powder still available as I only load fibre wad at the moment.

I have only had experience with Red Dot as this is all I could get at the time which seems to burn clean for the 1oz loads I have just loaded http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=248&t=398109 .

Here is a copy of one of the sheets I have with 24g to 28g loads:-
