ok as i see loads of excellent knife builds on here i thought i would give it a bash

bought a blank from matt at fieldcrafter (thanks again matt)

Now i just missed out on a lovely piece of walnut :( , i quote fancy walneut after seeing a few examples on here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Knife-scale-curly-California-black-Walnut-burl-/121339063994

so im just looking around for a nice knife blank and have come across some good golden camphor blanks

example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/knife-scale-blank-a-pair-of-quilted-Golden-Camphor-burls-a-/371064843675

so guess my first question is any there any reason not to choose walnut or the camphor ?

other than ebay any good places for some nice bookmatching walnut?

then i like the silver studs rather than brass, where is good place to get those ?

what epoxy or glue should i use ?

also have seen a nice sheath here http://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/tbs-brown-leather-sheath---multiple-variants-available-15677-p.asp

with firesteel and dc4 comes in around £35 any better or similar sheaths you can advise on ?

and then i supoose any tips /videos /guides on how to shape / produce handle ?

i guess finished result i want to achieve is something similar to this , but i think its possible at half the cost and the satisfaction side

hopefully some of the experience on here can help me in my project :good:

Plenty on youtube re making scales and fitting.

Two pack epoxy

Have a look on ebay for mosaic pins

Burl walnut or any burl looks lovely.

There is a great website called "british blades" its been a while since i was on there i am sure its called that.

You need to get the wood nice and flat i used a thick piece of glass and double sided tape to hold the sandpaper on. The more work you can do by hand, the more rewarding it is. Take your time.

Yes, the site is called British Blades

http://www.britishblades.com

Other places to get scales;

Brisa www.brisa.fi

Jean Turner www.jeanturner.co.uk

Tutorials: search for "Spyderco Mule - A Full Tang Tutorial" on British Blades.

Glue: I use Araldite 2011 (the industrial epoxy, not the stuff you buy in B&Q), others use Devcon 3 ton or similar.

Surface prep is probably more important than the brand of glue.

Sheath - you could do worse than make your own. There are loads of tutorials around, especially on BB, plus a good one on the Brisa site.

Or if you want to have one made, try Rapidboy or Ian Atkinson on BB (or yours truly ;) , although I wouldn't claim to be in their league).

Yes, I do. Allows a little movement between the tang and the scales, plus I think it looks nice :)

Just don't think using liners means you can skimp on getting the scales properly flat ;)

That's a nice piece of burl...

Thanks for advice Captain cant wait for it to arrive and get started, yep for the money i cant complain so far :)
