gsmith
I got a quick question, I have two jills one weeks age difference in them, over the last month or so "colder period" i have noticed one has lost weight, i thought ferrets held there weight in the winter? The other is still roughly the same weight. both eat food that is provided which is generally dry food, and cat type meaty food, Not rabbit, i have offered plentty of rabbit but they are not interested. Should i be worried in this weight loss? or is it a thing for a vet to see?? Gavin
Ferret Master
Could you stick a pic up? Although I would have to see the ferret I would be worried as I had a similar experience a few years ago where a ferret didn't seem as fat as her sister but seemed perfectly healthy and active. Until she just died one night only 6 months old. FM
Cranfield
Assuming they live together, are you sure she is getting her fair share of the food ? Not knowing what you call "thin", its difficult to comment without seeing the ferret (as Ferret Master said). In the Winter when they are working ferrets can lose some weight, but this is normally countered by their coats getting thicker, making some of them look like polar bears. If you don't have anyone local to you that, "knows their ferrets", take her to the Vet, if you are still concerned.
gsmith
Hi all thanks for the advise, i popped her to the vets tonight along with the other one. Vets verdict, both fine in fact maybe the other one is a bit on the tubby side. said keep and eye on them and maybe weigh them every 4 weeks and see if there is any difference. Thanks again for your advise for the sake of £15 i prefer to be happy than worried of the worst., Gavin
