anything runny like peanut butter or a bit of wet cat food is good bait as they cant pick it up and run off with it they have to stay to eat it which gives you time to get a shot off. with regards to time....well wait til it gets dark.

For the next few days bait an area that is near to their runs and that has a safe backstop, you can use veg oil and peanut butter or better still, veg oil and chocolate spread. Come back a few days later at about 9pm and sit and wait for them to emerge. If you have a low powered torch you can lamp them too but they will soon get wary of lights so you can invest in a night vision set-up!

If practical you should poison and trap in other areas otherwise you'll never get rid of them.

Poison and traps mate, you will never keep back their breeding with an airgun even if your at it 24/7. Not saying don't do it just use it as a third method, I like runny cat food as they cannot grab and go and it stinks (get the fishy stuff).

Do you know why they are there? Remove the food source.

There is no food source what I know of in the garden not even veg. We do have seagulls with chicks on the flat roofs and rats have been spotted on the flat roof.
