  1. Hi Craig welcome to PW from another Wiltshire Lad!
  2. Thanks for your help. Yes the bean husks were almost black when harvested. In the agricultural world would they be sold as seeds then and not go into the food chain somehow?
  3. At the risk of looking like a cheap skate and an idiot I ask the following... There loads and loads of freshly harvested beans on the ground in a field which has recently been cut. I'm sure the farmer won't be happy given the ammount that have been left on the floor. I want to show the kids how to get food from the field to the table. I've had them doing this with meat ie pheasent pigeon etc but I have no idea how to prepare or even if I can use the beans. Please can you advise with how to prepare them?
  4. Agree with the above, your land owner will need to sign a permission slip giving you authority to use firearms on the land. My feo walked most of the permissions I wanted to add that had not previously been cleared
  5. Here it is after two coat of Ccl gun stock conditioning oil hand rubbed in. And some more .
  6. Mtc mamba lite second hand - much better than the Hawke scopes imho
  7. To be honest the maxus is a work horse and I've got guns with nicer wood so thought I practice on this. Although you are right it's a very nice price of high grade walnut with some lovely tiger stripes. It's going to get a hand rubbed oil finish which will make it look much better in my opinion.
  8. Here are the before and after so far It should read after and before given the order of the pics!
  9. So left the metal work in place and masked off with the blue masking tape that is solvent resistant. Used nitromorse and left it 40 mins then wiped it down using a soft nylon brush on the chquering. I then went over with 0000 wire wool and repeated the process again. Then wiped it all down with white spirit and then sponged of liberally with warm soapy water and removed the blue tape. All looking great with the nasty bright shiny stuff off. Steamed a few of the dents out with an iron and wet cloth. All drying now and waiting for sanding tomorrow eve!
  10. Thanks for the replies. Ill have to refinish the forend with the metal work attached.
  11. So it seems no ne is able to help me here so I won't and pushed the retaining pin out of the forend catch. Just to let you know this does not enable the metal work to be released. Looks like I'm going to have to script this forend with the metal work in place. Any advice?
  12. Sorry to hijack the post - but I saw somewhere that you use fine grade wire wool to scrape the old stuff off?
  13. Chris I did call the Sportsman Gun Centre asking for the bits. I specifically asked when I called them to buy it if all the bits were with it. They conveniently can't recall having the conveesation and won't supply me with the spacers. I asked if they had call recording and to listen back to it as that would clear things up. They avoided the question but I have to assume they don't record calls. Can't say I'd reccomend them. Unfortunatley I can't do anything about it.
  14. Hi, Recently got a browning maxus premium with really nice wood. Unfortunately looks **** with an amature truoil finish. I will happily re finish it however need some advice with taking the metal work off the forend. Is removing the front catch as simple as pushing the retaining pin out and pulling the mechanism? Also the metal work that is nearest the recieved looks like it's actually machined in and any attempt to remove will damage the wood? Could I just mask this bit and use the stripper carefully in this area?
  15. Thanks to jaymo who is a credit to this site. I've always had great buying experiences on here. And to be honest I have had two items sent out of the kindness of their own hearts. Just to clarify I purchased from sportsman gun centre not on here. Went out for half hour after work two shots and two pigeons!
  16. Hi, I purchased the above from SGC as a used utem and had it sent to my local rfd. Happy with the gun but there's no choke key with it. I did ask if it had all original bits with it and I was told it did. Most likely a genuine mistake does anyone know where I can get a cheap flat key like the one it came with?
  17. I've not seen a eell for much less than 4grand if I could get one for less than three I'd have it!
  18. When I say I found 7 that was complete guns - As of yet I have found no second hand barrels at all for it.
  19. Yes I have searched online and on l've only found 7 for sale in the country!
  20. Certainly looks like the sensible thing to do is sell it and buy another one with longer barrels.
  21. That seems a good price can I ask where you bought them?
  22. Hi, This has more than likely come up before so sorry if this is going over old ground. I want a set of barrels for my beretta silver pigeon 5 its currently a 28inch fixed choke and I want 30inch multi chokes. I have been told its probably easier to buy a new gun, but this was the first gun I owned and it has exceptional wood so am reluctant to sell it. I have also been told to buy a silver pig 1 with the barrel length i want and use those barrels on it? Alternatively can I buy a preowned set to fit it? Thanks in advance.
  23. I've used A1 decoys a few times. I had a trap and flocked crows form them and they always send out quickly. I had a hide net and poles go missing in the post and they sorted a replacement next day without quibble. You canst ask for more than that.
