rtaylor
Hi. I've got both a Nikon gold crown and a Simmons pro hunter. They are both 4-12x40 adjustable parallax. I'm am going to sell one and looking through them I can't really see a difference. Is one better than the other and/or is one worth more than the other? I think I paid about £60 for each a few years ago second hand. Cheers
FalconFN
Do you mean Nikko rather than Nikon? The best test is to try them both at dusk and keep swapping between them as the light falls to see which one allows you to see clearest latest. There may also be differences in reticle type, field of view, eye relief etc that suit your type of shooting. bruno22rf
I believe that NIKON did/do make scopes-if it is one of theirs then I would not sell it-some of the best glass money can buy.
FalconFN
I have a Nikon Prostaff on one of my rifles but I'm pretty sure Nikko Stirling made a gold crown scope.

Bewsher500
depends on the age of them both Nikko stopped using Japanese glass and build quality at some point and they became very average (the variable aspect of yours would indicate it is probably one of the later ones as I am pretty sure most of the Jap GC's were fixed) some of the original Gold crowns are awesome. I have two myself in 8x50 and 6x44 I believe Simmons are made and sourced in the Phillipines and had a similar shift in quality when components were sourced somewhere else forget if the Filipino stuff is the good one or the bad one though!! see which one you prefer flog the other
