Mentalmac
Hi all, As the wife was out on a girls night out and the kids were at my parents for the night - I saw the time at 6:00pm and quickly jumped in the vitara with a handful of gear and a couple of guns! I parked up at my permission and saw a fair few pigeons flighting over the wheat and going to the big trees at the edge of the crop field. I ended up thinking that it would be a nice idea to set up a quick hide (literally just a couple of poles with a net and small stool) and then sat down and waited. My idea was to drop the birds as they come over my head to get them over the hedge I was sat against into the grass paddock land behind me (where I shoot the rabbits). Within a couple of minutes I missed the oppertunity to take a shot as I was looking the wrong way!!! Typical! Well, within a few minutes after, I had my first shot and first pigeon. Ended up getting 5 birds for 6 shots (had to use second barrel on one). Found all but 1. Spent a good 20 mins wading through stingers with a stick but couldn't find it - definitely watched it fold and drop but couldn't get the thing :-(. No decoys, no anything but 1 hour and shooting 5 pigeons was nice. I then went and set some mole traps in gardens of the landowner and took the rifle with me as we'll and whilst scanning with the scope saw two rabbits 'doing it doggy style' - well, suffice to say I shot the buck as the doe wasn't presenting a good shot as the grass was quite long. Was a good shot and strangely both eyes fell out... Yuck! Well, I then noticed that the sky had gone all murky and lots of flys and then the birds, big and small all went away and the 'CRACK' - loud thunder clap and then minutes later we had lightening which seemed close and I luckily made it with all my gear and quarry into the car before the rain which was a bonus :-). A nice 1.5 hours out :-)
Paul taylor
Nice one. Quick sessions like that can be great and quite often for me all I have time for. It's good to just bag enough for a couple of meals. atb P.T Edited July 13, 2014 by Paul taylor

Mentalmac
Cheers guys, me too - I love my kids and work hard so appreciate quick sessions out and about where I get to do other stuff in a day as well. And have enough meat for the week for myself now too :-). Shame abou the pigeons lost in the brambles - may put a scythe in the car for next sits in case same happens again! Mentalmac
True, I may not be able to procure one - they just seem a sensible shape for long nettles and brambles. Still wont stop me doing the famous hands on the floor in the fresh cut nettles trick I have perfected!
