robbiep
Been away for a bit with work, so not had larsen traps running recently. Jackdaws and magpies have been a real problem around the poultry, so set up a larsen again last night. This morning, 1 magpie in there, moved to the centre cage, food and water for it, and re-set. Two hours later, another magpie. Dispatched properly, of course. Trap re-set Just had a quick look - both compartments tripped, another 2 magpies. Anyone need any ? These 2 will be dispatched in a couple of hours, (so 5 pm-ish), but at this rate, hopefully more will be available. hoggysreels
Robbie.... bit off topic mate, but here goes .. when your actually hunting the corvids "around the poultry" .. what do you use, gun wise? ..atb Hoggy
robbiep
Ideally, either 410 shotgun or my S410 .22 PCP, to minimise disturbance to the chickens. 12 bore can put them off laying for a couple of days, we've found. Which is why larsen traps are so useful, of course. Silent, magpies aren't suspicious around them, and they come in to call birds very readily. robbiep
No, not moderated. Just a single barrel Webley and Scott bolt action, used with (usually) Eley 2.5 inch cartridges.
Footu
That seems more than sporting seeing your percentage Clay bashing. Unless of course you hunt them once they are inside the Larsen traps. Lol:-P
hoggysreels
I recently picked up an SMK .22 air rifle and its only a wee bit quieter than my webley .410 bolt action lol ... though good fun!!

robbiep
An update : Got my other larsen trap back from a friend's smallholding, put one of the captured birds into that. The results, up to now : Plus the 2 call birds. Got the traps in quite a shady spot, just to reduce any heat stress in the call birds. Seems to be going quite well !
