Longchalk
Set up on some rape stubble this morning, with 14 half shell, 2 dead birds on flappers, and 2 more on the magnet. It quickly became apparent that the magnet was spooking them, so I brought it in. Eventually brought the flappers in as well, and left just the shells, and a few dead birds propped uo on the stubble. Bingo! Pigeon tap was turned on. Thing is, instead of "dropping in", they were crossing the field towards me just above stubble height. I shot 32 in 3 & 1/2 hours and missed as many. I doubt that I had more than 10 shots that were above 5ft off the ground... Good sport, but just a bit frustrating really. silver pigeon 3
I had an eve on rape stubble last night and had a lot of birds skimming the stubble to get to the decoys, they were a little like shooting rabbits! found the pigeons to be suicidal though and probably 80% of the birds decoyed really well. Made a school boy error and only took about 75 cartridges, ended early at 7.15pm picking up 56 and another 5 lost in the standing wheat and hedge behind.
