THAIBOXER
HI, I've got permission to shoot on a local farm, had it on and off for last 21 years with no probs. i have a field designated to myself, but its open with no cover only a railway line. Yesterday i printed 50 letters on my comp. to send to farmers, golf courses, poultry farmers etc. asking to shoot their land, said i was 38,employed security manager, would respect land, buildings, livestock, boundries etc.etc.i adhere to B.A.S.C.guidelines. In return i would report anyone suspicious on their property to them or the police via my mobile phone i carry. I posted 25 letters 1st class and im waiting. I said im looking to shoot rabbits, pigeons and rats, and would endevour to control their vermin regularly. IS THIS A SUITABLE TACTIC TO GET PERMISSION? OR CAN ANYONE PUT ME IN CONTACT WITH A NEEDY FARMER IN WARWICKSHIRE? I understand shoots are hard to come by and CONFIDENTIALLITY ASURED. Any help would be appreciated and respected. luckytrigger
In my experience you cant beat face to face.. A morning/afternoon spent door knocking could land you with more shoots than you can handle

Dead-Eyed Duck
Unless you are very, very lucky sending letters is a waste of time. The simple reason is would you give permission for someone to shoot on your land with a firearm that you do not know? Having said that it worked for me once, when a local farmer was fed up with shooting pigeon on his rape and wanted help - he replied to an advert that I put in the local paper. As others have said - knocking on doors and being polite is the best way. Accept refusals with good grace and always ask if the farmer is aware of any possible prospects in the area. Once you have permission on one farm then away you go...... I got most of my early permits by asking for ferreting rights with the statement "No guns and no dogs!" Once trust is gained, then work on the next step of getting pemission for a firearm. Don
Elliot Brown
i sent out 21 letters got about 5 replys 1 was a yes and i then went to meet the farmer when he had time. i figuered that if they want someone they want someone, at least with a letter it gives them a chance to think about it and not made to make a desishion on the spot. i think its a matter of opinion letters are a good way of contacting a lot of people quickly and it depends on how much time you have to go door knocking. PLEASE CONTACT MYSELF AT THE ABOVE ADDRESS OR BY TELEPHONE TO DISCUSS ANY ISSUES YOU MAY HAVE. THANKS AGAIN. NAME AND SIGNATURE. like the member said the farmer can have a think and not make an on the spot decision. Anyone can brush up smart and talk the talk for 5 mins,i've shown responsibility and he can ask round about my background at will. i may be wrong. i'll keep you guys posted, thanks for comments. codling99
theres no magic answer to getting permission mate, just got to try all ways to get it.personally,i likes going knocking farms on a sunday morning.got aond 12 farms at mo,but had more rejections than man wif 3 eyes mate, take them in ya stride and keep on knocking, they will come eventually, and once your in on one,you ask next farm in line and tell them you shoot on their neighbours farm, and they usually get a bit more trusting then..
