Fallow

I went with three mates to Lincolnshire for pigeons, fallow and muntjac. The fallow story and pictures i enclose here. For the other stories i make a new topic (otherwise i get confused  )

So the fallow story is that there are wild fallow spread over the estate and some fallow fenced in the park.

For the wild fallow we sat on high seats in the wood. First night me and an mate saw no beasts unfortunately, but plenty of fresh tracks so we knew they had to be there. Second morning, no fallow either. Second night i pointed my friend to a different high seat and i myself stalked to another one close by. I just reached the bottom of the ladder when a shot cracked, then another one and then another one. Oops i tought, either he has a good round or an animal is injured and runs away. Up till then i did not know what happened. I waited for several minutes to not disturb a dying animal on the ground that might go running again. Then slowly went to my friend, making myself clearly visible and sometimes whistling. Coming to the place where the high seat was i saw my friend near the edge of the wood. He told me that he saw 12 fallow deer coming from the right, he let some pass because he couldn't have a proper shot. Then shot a male one at 90 meters, it dropped immediately, the others didn't know what to do and came towards the high seat. He then shot another male (is it buck with fallow?). This one dropped to the ground but after a while got it's head up, so he shot it through the head just in case. So two first year fallow bucks. It was his first fallow ever so i gave him the proper procedure.

I myself didn't go out anymore because we had to drink some beers.

I myself got a fallow buck by stalking the same wood early in the morning, and a hind in the evening by stalking. They where slowly going through the woods so got a good look at them before i shot. It amazes me that they differ in the color of the skin so much. One is light other dark.

Also i was asked to cull some fallow in the park. It does sound easy but it is not because it has to be a neck shot, they stay together so you will have to wait for one to stand free and they won't let you come close. First we tried by car, took us an hour to get a shot out at 70 meters, i shot it in the neck ok. We gutted it and put it in the freezer. I then tried it on foot, they where curious and i got to 60 meters, and lay down to get a shot. They then came towards me another 10 meters. Shot a big hind in the neck. After that couldn't get near them anymore till 100 meters. So no shot fired anymore. They will try the others by car. Not the most sportmanship shooting but it apparntly has to be done.

Long story. Will put muntjac up shortly.

In all had great time again in the UK so thank you guys.
