BunnyBasher14
Hi, Had my FAC for around 3 months for 22lr & 17hmr. Thinking of putting in a variation for .243 for Fox & Deer. Do you think its too soon to put in for a variation? (I've been out quite a few times with my mate who's got a .223 & .243 on an open ticket so have experience with CF). My main permissions i use the rifles on currently have all been passed for .223, Do you think it would be an issue to get them passed for .243? Should i call up to see if FAO will re check the land before i put in for the variation? My plan is to eventually go for DSC1 and start doing some paid stalks. Thanks in advance for your help and advice

steve_b_wales
A good friend of mine has just received his variation to acquire a 22-250 calibre, after using a 22LR and 17 HMR for a few months. He also had plenty of practice using my 22-250, and I wrote a letter to the police stating this. You could ask your friend to do this for you, as it could help the police make the decision you want. Good luck.
Rim Fire
First you need permission to shoot deer on your land off the owner which they will check or you will have to prove that you have allready booked stalking which they will check they wont give you a 243 for foxing well they dont here in gwent

I'd speak to your shooting organisation. Have you done your DSC level 1? It shows that you are serious about deer and have been independently assessed on gun safety - a box the FEO needs to tick.
