steve_b_wales
My friend in America has done a 2nd review of the above NV scope, and is disappointed. Go on YouTube and type ' Photon XT 4.6 (part 2) I have put a deposit on one, and I am now debating to get the new ATN X sight instead, although I haven't seen reviews on this scope. What do you think?
onatangent
So it needs a doubler and a better illuminator then for reasonable ranges. The onboard illuminator seems limp wristed across all the ranges compared to the alternatives used. Think it would still be a good bit of kit for bunny bashing and ratting though. I was down wind within 50 yards of a fox last Wednesday so would have been usuable there. Did help it wasn't shy while I walked up on it and it must have recognised I was carrying a pcp. Clever pup. I didn't buy one in the end but still might when more reviews pop up in the future. Happy enough with 4-12x50 panorama and nm400 white for now. steve_b_wales
I have good IR with my NM800 so that's no problem. I don't want to go to the expense of buying a doubler' and £400 just to shoot rats and rabbits is a bit much. I can use my Cobra Merlin with DSA for that. But, I don't think I would be shooting at a fox at 127 yards using NV. Most of my foxes are taken around the 60 - 80 yard mark. I am now unsure what to do for the best. The ATN scope has 12 times mag'on the cheaper one, and has a lot more features on it, although I probably wouldn't need them all. Decisions, decisions! snow white
Hi Steve there is something wrong with video. on my photon in the day the target rabbit/Charles shows black not as a coloured object.be it live or dead Edited October 27, 2014 by snow white
steve_b_wales
Thanks for that. My friend is experienced in most forms of shooting/NV, so I tend to listen to him. I am now toying with the option of getting the ATN scope, for the extra magnification. I think it has built in recording as well, which could prove usefull. onatangent
ATN looks like the tool for all the jobs. My sticking points were the ipx rating and the fixed mag but for me and an air rifle would have been fine. Was actually talked out of buying the photon by my rfd and spending less on a scope, lamp etc. Strange I know :-)
steve_b_wales
Well,I have decided to go for the ATN X sight. It should suit all my needs. Not sure when I will receive it, but when I do, I'll do an honest review on it.

steve_b_wales
Steve have you seen the weight of that scope 2.7 lbs is a lot on top of rifle mate No, I did'nt take note of the weight. I'll have to renew my membership in the Gym! The scope will be used either on my 243 or 22 Hornet. 99% of my shooting will be done off sticks or with the rifle resting on something. I don't intend walking around with it. Just as well I suppose.
steve_b_wales
My American friend has now sold his Photon XT, as he could not get the focusing to suit his needs. He did say however, that one or two of his friends have bought the Photon, and are pleased with their purchase. They did not report any problems with focusing. My friend thinks that his may have been faulty. He is considering an ATN X sight now, once he's seen a few reviews about it. I'm still waiting for mine, and can't see me getting it before the end of this year. The money for it is locked away, but it's getting hard not to use it for something else.
