Suffolk shooter
Seen the signs up and down the A14/A12, Saturday and Sunday March 10th/11th. Not the biggest show, but certainly worth a visit if like me you have to spend time with the family, but can use this as an excuse to do what you want to do, whilst being with them. I'll be going on the Sunday (MC, anynews on the hare shoot for the 10th), last years was quite windy and snowy. Quite amusing watching Chris Green doing his wildfowling demonstration in the middle of the ring, as snow pelted it down and the local Mallard population decided to try and land in the ring. Early season bargins to be had, normally last seasons stock, demos are good, but as i say not the biggest and no there's no clay shoot. MC
I went today and met up with SS, It wasn't a bad show, much better than last year. Chris Green's wildfowling demo is also good to watch. He had a bad day today, his gun misfired and his spaniel ran in. He made light of it all and the crowd didn't mind. I ran Merlin in the scurry and he Had posted the second fastest time up until we left about 3.30. Also watched a demo of flying hawks over spaniels, something I had not seen before. Suffolk shooter
Was a good day indeed, weather was sunny and fairly warm, More stalls than last year, better organised. I missed Chris Green's display as it wasn't in the main arena, but in the small arena The one thing that is truely missing from the show is a clay stand, but I think this is more to do with the fact that it's a showground rather than just a field and it doesn't have suitable adjoined land like say the East Anglian Game fair. Bought, The Gamekeepers Diary "Pigeon Shooting" DVD, just finished watching it. Not as good in some respects as Chris Green's, but more action shots. The one thing I really didn't like was the fact that it seemed so re-hearsed in terms of the commentry, re-inforced when you see the outtakes at the end of the DVD. Why oh why doesn't BASC have a stand there, Surely they ought to be supporting local Game and country fairs, although I am aware that the Eastern region Representative is away until Tomorrow. Good to see you there MC, glad Merlin did well, hope it stayed that way at the end of the day??? Bumped into so many people I know through Shooting/Fishing even the Outlaws It was good to bump into the Farmer of our new permission and be told we we're welcome back at anytime. Top bloke Reminds me MC, how much does Merlin Charge for personal appearances now his famous and his photo's are appearing at these shows? MC
I did ask about royalties but it fell on deaf ears, Still we got 600 acres of pigeon shooting out of it so I won't complain. Not sure if Merlin was still second by the end of the day but he did well, that is all I can ask.
SNAKEBITE
Just had a thought Kent Game Fair is on 31st March, 1st April,at the Kent Show Ground dont know if its any good though as I've never been. Colin I have been twice now. Last year was not that good. It is best if actually want to buy things as the prices and range of items is good. The first year I went was the first year I was shooting so I had a shopping list of things I wanted/needed. Last year I didn't spend anything and came away with money, a first for me! Slightly disapointing but if the weather is good then give it a whirl as you can always watch the displays.
