kennett
Need a bit of help, my shoot mule is unhappy. Feeding round on Wednesday it slowly lost power, until it could manage 10mph at best. The engine runs sweet enough, but when knocked into neutral and revved, it can't pick up. Cleaned the fairly dusty air filters, and was better for 5mins, then lost power again, and on the trip back to the farm slowly got worse. It does occasianally pick up, and then kicks out a cloud of blue/black smoke. When left to cool for an hour it revs better, then drops off again after a few mins. Any ideas, plenty of oil and water in it and turns over easily.

Rupert
there may be a strainer in or near the tank end too. Are there any electronics on the engine? Edited November 7, 2014 by Rupert

pycoed
Black smoke usually indicates insufficient air getting to the engine rather than insufficient fuel. I'd have a good look at the air intake tubes & double check the air filter. I've had a mouse nest in the quad airbox before now...
aris
Air mass meter / airflow meter. When mine went wrong, disconnecting it was a workaround, but at the expense of fuel economy. YMMV
kennett
Where abouts is the air mass sensor, worth a try!
