  1. Does anyone use the Decibullz moldable plugs? My faithful Howard Leights have died after 10 years and looking at various replacements.
  2. This is how mine is burning with seasoned Ash, glass only ever needs a wet wipe to remove a light layer of dust. Looking at the tar on the glass of your mother's stove, there is a severe lack of intake air or draw from rhe chimney. Mine has 2 vents, both open to light, bottom closed as soon as the kindling has caught and top closed as far as it'll go (which is about 3/4) once everything is going. It could also be poor quality or wet wood. Regarding grates, mine has a grate in the bottom but I burn on a good few inches of ash, cleaned right out it burns too quickly and is less controlled.
  3. This is exactly the issue I have, for example I stood on a peg in quarry and the picker ups must have pushed a covey of partridge from the back, I stood day dreaming with an open gun but managed to close it, pick a left and right and crash both into the quarry wall in front of me....all basically without thinking about it. But if I can see a cock pheasant climb out of a wood and come at me across a field I have always struggled as my instinct and eyes all have a fall out about who's doing what 😂 Thanks everyone, exactly what I needed to hear! Looks like I have a project for the summer 🤞
  4. This is partly what's making me hesitant about making the swap, I can definitely shoot left handed but everything else from carrying to loading and mounting seems alien and clumsy! Maybe a combination of practice mounting at home and a few hours on the clays will help.
  5. I've always been a fairly decent rough/snap shot but equally have always struggled with consistency on driven game, either shooting well or missing everything! Part of this is down to rhe fact that I'm right handed but left eye dominant, which either didn't happen right away or just because I've shot right handed for 25 years and always muddled through. However this sort of came to a head when I shot in Wales last week with a borrowed gun, and got frustrated half way through the day and switched to my left shoulder and began to shoot much better. My question is, is 36 too late to swap, and realistically how much work will take to train everything to shoot fluidly with my weak hand but strong eye! Thanks
  6. I had one of these 20 years ago, served me perfectly well 👌
  7. Morning all, due to an extra lockdown child I'm converting ½ my attached garage into a bedroom for the oldest one. The work will comprise of one stud wall to split the garage, raising the floor 100mm and boarding the existing brick and block walls, 2 of which are internal. Does anyone know what the minimum level of thermal and acoustic insulation the building inspector will want to see, and will they just need the stud wall doing? I've emailed them, but not heard anything back
  8. That's what I thought at first, but never seen it clump like that before 🤷‍♂️
  9. Does anyone recognise this, found growing in a friend's horse paddock under the hedge.
  10. Don't worry, ignore the oldies. He's funny and obviously not meant to be taken seriously, Didn't go 20 was shouted a lot on beaters day 😂
  11. I have this issue too, and it affects me in differing amounts depending on what I'm doing. I have one of the tru glo beads and don't think it makes any real difference. If driven or clay shooting where I can see a target coming and have time to prepare I can struggle, my head knows I should close my left eye and use my right but half way through the process my left eye wants to do its thing and tries to take over resulting in us all getting in a muddle. However if rough or snap shooting I would class my self as a better than average shot purely because I don't have time to over think it and my brain must sort something out, I couldn't tell you what I do but it is just instinct anr reflexes. A friend who has the same problem had a lot of success with a pair of glasses with some tape over the corner of the left eye.
  12. I've been looking everywhere for a Terios/Jimmy/whatever to use as a warmer quieter version of a Mule. Even a rot box mot fail is well over £1k

    Weather!

These are our temps for the last 30 days, middle column is the over night lows, just 2mm of rain for the whole of April. Some days it's felt like being in a Himalayan mountain village with a hard frost, a howling easterly wind and dust blowing through the farm. Just needed a couple of Buddhist monks wandering about!
  14. It has a knock off safety bar, which is designed to hit your leg on the way past, but still a quick, sharp twist to get that far, and doesn't work if it misses you on the way round. Good bit of kit though and makes life a lot easier!
  15. We have a Stihl one that runs a 6" auger no problem, but it's an arm or leg breaker if it bites a root or stone.
  16. Loved mine, target barrel and new trigger with nylon bushes in the action. Was a rabbit killing machine, just need to look out for bullet lube/wax collecting in the action which then attracts dust and grit which can affect cycling. Put literally 1000s through mine with minimal issues, and it is fun to go full (semi) auto!
  17. Farming Forum is a good place for unbiased reviews, but as Figgy said you would be better off hiring someone with a JCB or 360 for your initial clear up. We have a 19 plate JD loader at work with 4:1 bucket, grain bucket and timber grab and even this is a compromise, never quite being as easy to use as our jcb, and you can't see your bucket once it goes below the bonnet.
  18. Well I'm getting 0%, and have been at work every day. As part of that treating seriously injured trauma patients, taking pressure off the NHS and having temporary 10% pay cut.
  19. I've re joined this year and donated a few times, we need them more than ever.
  20. Been cutting grass almost all winter at work, but my lawn is getting near!
  21. Free house/council tax/water Crow, Rabbit, Fox and Rook shooting at work Free to borrow any tractor and kit for use on my shoot Use of workshop And plenty of others, consider myself very lucky!
  22. Personally I wouldn't "clad" the sides completely, as more air flow the better. Mine is made of pallets for the floor and the ends are pallet tops with the feet and base knocked off (looks smarter than it sounds 😂)
  23. Funny that, our 3 pairs of Curlew nest in the middle of 2500 acres of completely open flat heathland. Not a hedge or tree to be seen. Although saying that I can see this year being a disaster with the massive increase in dog walkers.
  24. Could you not leave the timber in long lengths and winch it down? Obviously won't work if we're talking miles but with enough bits of rope attached to the winch wire you could get them down to the flat and then process.
  25. Don't come on my shoot days then, 10 - 15 kids in the beating line is completely normal and they all have great fun. My circle of friends have all got young children who beat and shoot, and my own two beat and help me with the keepering, legislation and the permanently offended will kill shooting.
