An undoubtably foolish question about DIY NV

If I bought something like this for £11:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-DVR-2-5-LCD-HD-1080P-Camera-Motion-detection-Video-Recorder-Night-Vision-UK-/141261379284

and a cheap Ultrafire IR torch for another £11, with a bit of plastic pipe to point the camera down my existing scope, would that give me night vision for c. £25 (with a bit of jiggery pokery to extend cables etc.)?

Perhaps not as elegant as a dedicated night sight (Yukon Photon for example) but switchable between rifles with existing expensive optics (OK, not that expensive but decent enough)

Just wondering why it wouldn't work or do you think 1080p is not clear enough?

In the very broadest sense it coukd work, but very badly. The two main issues with that would be the very wide angle of the lens and the poor low light capabilities of the sensor. The 90 degree field of view from the lens would mean that you wouldn't see much of the scope and crosshairs as it would be a small circle on the screen. The camera will work up to a point but even the cheapest Sony board camera would be a massivr improvent.

I forgot to add in my earlier pm that there is an infrared blocking filter over most camera sensors so that would have to be removed and I don't know if that is easy to do on the reversing camera.

Any link to the Sony camera you mentioned? A brief look on eBay has them all built into webcams etc.

The DVR cameras I've looked at have a night vision mode so the filtering shouldn't be an issue. The inbuilt screen & battery (plus recording capability) seem attractive but if the lens is too wide angle then it's a stopper, or can an extra lens be fitted?

A cheap camera that is effective would be this Sony super HAD II 700tvl from ebay 141463339873 you could get it cheaper from China too.

It is plug and play so nice and simple to use, it isn't the best camera by a long way but I have used one in one of my setups and it is good out too 200 plus yards.

Don't bother with the imac camera as it uses a different format so you could not plug it into a screen.
