Fisherman Mike
Lads negotiating to buy a 03 plate 1.4 Match with 100k on the clock..had a new clutch, water pump and timing belt at about 80k but a couple of advisories on last weeks MOT (which it passed) Parking break efficiency low but sufficient. Assume this is the assembly. Slight play in OS rack These anything much to worry about and expensive to fix.? Anything else he should look out for ? Bodywork is very straight no oil leaks I can see and seems to drive straight. Thanks as always.
neil82
hand brake may be just full of dust, drums off to check or if its disc will need pads out to make sure they are free to move not seized, play in o/s needs checking as to where the play is, is it track rod end or steering rack arm ball joint, as to expense, how handy are you with spanners, nothing overly complicated there except for tracking needs to be checked if parts are replaced

Paddy Galore!
every veedub I've ever owned has had a naff hand brake, either disc or drum. if you're of a mind to, a day with the spanners is in order and they're relatively simple to fix. I saw a bumper sticker on my travels recently... "Volkswagen! making mechanics out of owners on a daily basis"
