THAIBOXER Posted March 5, 2007 Report Share Posted March 5, 2007 HI 20 YEAR OLD STOCK WAS LOOKING A BIT TATTY AND DARK BROWN (YUK) READ A FEW POSTS AND THOUGHT ID HAVE A BASH AT RE-CONNING MY OMEGA STOCK. STRIPPED IT DOWN TO JUST THE STOCK,Eg. NO SWIVELS,RECOIL PAD ETC. NIROMORS'D IT. WASHED IN WARM WATER AND DRIED. NITROMOR'S AGAIN. WASH AND DRY. A LIGHTRUB OVER WITH FINE SANDPAPER TILL SMOOTH. APPLIED DANISH OIL,WIPED WITH RAG,WAITED 4 HOURS. DID THIS ANOTHER TWICE (3 TOTAL) AS IT SAYS ON TIN. AND....... IT LOOKS LIKE A BRAND NEW ONE!!! A LIGHTER COLOUR,BUT NOT OUT OF PLACE,SORT OF ANTIQUE PINE ISH. YOU CAN PUT STAIN IN THE OIL AS IT SAYS BUT I FOUND IT FINE. ONLY TOOK ONE DAY ALL UP. Highlander Posted March 6, 2007 Report Share Posted March 6, 2007 Only problem with stripping a stock down to the bare wood is that, especially on some cheaper guns, the ‘graining’ isn’t in the wood but painted/printed on. Take that off and you’re left with a very poor looking bit of ‘orange box’ wood for a stock. If you think that a stock’s beautiful graining is fake then it’s better just to clean it gently and take off that build up of old oil and grime.
