Hector Vector
Earlier on this evening I was getting my gear ready for tomorrow's shoot. Decided to take a gun I haven't used in a while, put the snap caps in it, pulled the triggers and the right-hand lock didn't sound or feel right. Pretty sure it was a broken mainspring and on stripping it found this; broken in two places. I suspect the limb has been cracked for a while - there's a bit of burnishing at the fracture site. Can't really complain I suppose as it's lasted for 117 years! Time to get busy in the workshop and make a new one. In fact I think I'll make a pair while I'm at it just in case the other one decides to give up the ghost.

Hector Vector
I could give it a go - the company is still in existance. Spoke to the owner earlier this year, very pleasant, helpful person. I'm sure he'd oblige...
Underdog
Shame. Made some from unwound valve spring wire once. Good steel. Oil quenched and drawn back to plum color in a hot oven. U. Edited December 6, 2014 by Underdog
