Is it normal for a FEO to come out to discuss a variation?

After a long time out of shooting due to becoming a father and starting my own business I am finally in a position to have more time to shoot. Currently I have an old BSA .22RF open sights for vermin control but put a variation in for a 2nd .22 to be used as a lamping gun, wanting something with a shorter barrel to use from a vehicle and to be able to take a scope. The BSA wont take one.

Phoned them up today as its been over a month and they said the variation had been handed over to the FEO who will be in touch to arrange a visit. I've also moved house so did a change of address on Firearms and Shotgun at the same time so just hoping the FEO is bringing out new certs and to check the cabinet.

But just wondering what my odds are in getting the 2nd .22? Concerned as I havent purchased any ammo in over a year, due to the above reasons and just wondering if the FEO will question why I want another if I haven’t used one. The actual reason for this is that I am in the process of gaining much more land and that combined with some free time means I will be able get out shooting a whole lot more now. Explained all of the above in a letter attached to the variation. We will see I guess!
