Gully
Can anyone explain how the CPSA classes work? I was shooting at the weekend and was asked what class I was in. I didn't know what they were talking about and it was suggested I join the CPSA and get a classification and do some registered shoots. I assume its worked out like a golf handicap but can't find much about it on the CPSA website.
Catamong
It's all here matey, they're updated every 6 months. http://www.cpsa.co.uk/dyncat.cfm?catid=16752 All the best, Cat
Gully
Cheers Cat. I couldn't find that at all. what does it all mean though? Are there prizes for each class in competitions? Do you get 'bandits' like in golf? I've only ever seen prizes for 'High Gun'.
Catamong
Yes, plenty of "bandits" abound in the shooting game, that's why they now re-calculate the averages every 6 months, so that those shooting above their class get upgraded, so the sombrero mob can't get away with it for very long. All CPSA Registered shoots should display the "payback" per entry at the entries desk. This is typically about £6 out of an entry fee of say £32. Payouts are made across all the classes and are usually based on the number of entries per class. As there are relatively few entries in the top class, (AA), the payout in this class tends to be lower, but the High Gun prize of say £100 is usually won by a AA class shot. I always find it a bit odd that the guy that shoots a 95, (one bird behind the winner) very often goes home with less money than the guy that has shot a 69 in "C" class. I think it would be fairer to spread the payback evenly across the classes, so that 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each class get the same payback. As things currently stand, there's no incentive to shoot yourself up into AA. Cat.
Gully
Thanks again Cat. I've just joined the CPSA online so will be heading down this route for a bit to see how I get on. All the best Nick
