copperkins
Just bought a new howa 308 with stainless steel sporter barrel. Unfortunately the ppu ammo that my other rifles (223 and 308 Howa`s s/s heavy varmint barrels) love, acts more like a shotgun pattern in the new rifle. Just wondering if anyone on pigeon watch has the same rifle type and might give me a “heads up” on which brands of ammo to start with. I have been in this situation before and i am basically trying to shorten what can be a bloody tedious, time consuming and very expensive bullet chase. Loading my own is not an option! DaveT
I've a blued 308 with likes sako 150g hammerheads, likewise mine hated ppu
copperkins
Thank you Dave, that is the first box I will buy. I suppose that I am lucky in the respect that this lighter rifle will hopefully be my dedicated stalking tool and won`t be using too much ammunition, therefore I am not overly worried about the cost ( "not worried about It" but I don`t like it either!) Thanks again. Tony
team tractor
My howa 223 hates ppu but loves Winchester varmint and hornady. Trying geko and rws at garlands this weekend
Vince Green
It may also be your new stainless barrel. They do require a bit more running in than ordinary steel, often they need a good few rounds through them before they settle down. Stainless can be more fussy on ammo too, allegedly! copperkins
Thank you Vince and team tractor, I suppose that I did not consider that point Vince so I will bang some more down it, see what happens! Team Tractor, I`ve been to Garlands twice in the last few weeks, I think I was lucky to hit the tunnel and the A4 target was completely safe! those Winchesters are stunning in my 223 varmint but I have never used them in a 308. if the gun is going to be picky then they will be on the list as well, that's if I can get hold of some.
