Livefast123
I'm going to Florida in a couple of months and was hoping to take advantage of cheap componant prices by stocking up on some 200 / 240g Hornady XTP bullets in .44. I have the relevant expanding ammo condition on the FAC. Has anybody done this or anybody that knows of any issues i may encounter.
phaedra1106
Bullets (and cases) are now covered by ITAR so technically not allowed without an export permit.
Carman06
Are synthetic stocks permitted without a permit?
phaedra1106
Shouldn't be a problem

Livefast123
Cheers Phaedra, does ITAR also cover 'normal' bullets.
casts_by_fly
livefast, Yes, the munitions list doesn't specify expanding or non expanding, target vs hunting, etc. All of my bullets have come from the US when I've gone home for holidays or other travel. The DOJ regulations are a bit non specific when it comes to components though ammunition is clear. Generally the munitions list says that you need an export license for everything unless there is an exception. For full ammunition, the munitions list exempts US persons exporting a certain quantity/value for personal use when carried with you when you travel (i.e. you can go on a hunt with your own ammunition and check a bag with ammunition in it without a permit). There is no such exemption for foreign persons. Certainly foreign persons are not permitted to purchase ammunition unless it is for use in connection with an event/competition/hunt and you can't take your leftovers home with you. For ammunition components, the rules don't explicitly state that you can't export bullets (at least not that I've found in reading them) but the ITAR interpretation is that bullets are the same as loaded ammunition. In practice, a lot of things would have to go wrong for you to get caught out. First, most sales clerks don't know not to sell to a foreign person or ask for a hunting license from a foreign person. Second, ammunition components do not need to be declared at check-in- only loaded ammunition and firearms need to be declared. So the only check point would be if someone in the checked bag security scanning system (a) thought you might be prohibited from exporting (remember it would be legal for most people they would encounter) and (b) actually pull the bag and query it. So there is a very low chance that anything would happen. thanks, rick
phaedra1106
We're also on about a trip to Florida in summer. Would like a slidefire stock from states though. Extremely illegal over here As posted by casts_by_fly, I've brought thousands of bullets back from the US over the last 14 years and never had a problem, last 2 trips all our bags were opened and inspected without a problem, but, it could lead to a lot of problems. For my needs I've started buying from eGun.de, one of my favourite bullets as a comparison, 1000 x Nosler Custom Competition .30 168g Over here are £230-£300 + carriage In the US around £120, From Germany the last ones cost me £170 including tracked delivery in 3 days. Carman06
Slide fire stock is not illegal over here. Was actually sold by midway UK until they changed suppliers to brown hills.
phaedra1106
Strange, I was told they were on the naughty list due to the rate of fire.
