Shop bought second hand gun

The cost of the activity is only applicable if they are giving up paid work in order to clean the gun for sale instead.

Assume that they are at work anyway, if they are not engaged in any other fee paying work then it is a sunk cost, so running a mop through the barrels and a general wipe down is not onerous and adds no additional cost to the product. I see it as just taking pride in the service the shop offer.

Whilst I agree with your sentiments, comments I have previously made refer to the OP's.... " and the choke, whilst free, had rust on its screw area. I dropped the trigger mechanism out and think I found mouse droppings!

A little more than an assistant running a mop and duster over it !

In which case I would agree with you. I was going to say I wouldn't expect the stock to be removed and trigger mechanism cleaned, etc, there has to be a certain level of expectation by the purchaser of a used budget gun that it has not been inspected in every detail.

I suppose that raises the question of what an appropriate threshold is before you expect a more dedicated service, i genuinely don't know but thinking that probably around £1,500 upwards, maybe higher?

That's right. Any gun offered for sale in any circumstances should at least be cleaned to the normal level of a conscientious gun owner: not necessarily disassembled, but broken down and cleaned properly.

Any specialist seller of any specialist product of any value at all who sells it in visibly dirty condition has no pride and no shame.

This was a semi automatic, dropping the trigger mechanism meant pushing out two pins and allowing gravity to do its part. Believe me, I'm no gunsmith and certainly not up to completely disassembling a shotgun further than as shown in the owner's manual.

I don't know what the answer is Chris, I would expect a shop to carry out a certain amount of work to make sure a product is fit for sale, at the very least cleaning to the same level as would be expected by an average user of the gun.

If on a semi-auto that means dropping out the trigger mechanism then that should be done, but I genuinely don't know if that is the case, I don't own any pogo sticks.

If the shop had purchased a semi auto for resale or taken one in as part of a trade in or similar I would have thought they would do a cursory inspection anyway to make sure that it isn't full of debris given that they are reputed to be more sensitive to lack of cleaning, but if they don't care to protect themselves in doing that then I guess they don't care about the customer experience either.
