SHOOTEMUP
hi folks i want to install cctv ,have looked so far at the swann brand ,does any one installed these ,or any other recomendations thanks Got an eight camera system off the bay of pigs two years ago its Chinese but have to say its a genuine plug and play system but the cameras are not the best so get some good branded cameras and you will be surprised how good that system is and if you have a power cut it doesn't need resetting either
andypaint
Don't buy Swan kits if you want to see anything, try sony night and day stuff, amazing clarity. Have a look on Moreton alarm systems website

rovercoupe
basics to look for, the recorder or dvr, the total number of frames per second. its no good having really good cameras and to have a slow frame rate or rubbish quality playback. night vision or low light quailty, the latest sony cameras are amazing and well worth the money there will be others that are good but I have not tested them yet! also additional ir illuminators or security lights are handy. Cameras will do 2 things 1 give a wide coverage to see whats going on but you will never get a good face/number plate off it or you can have a narrow field of veiw and get good detail but it needs to be in the right place. Do you want the system to be a deterent or covert? A small 3.5" monitor is handy to have where yo spend most of the time so you can keep a eye on things. Most scumbags are not too bothered by cameras these days as they just go hood up but if you can see a few hoodies hanging around then odds on they are up to no good and you can call the rozzers in!
