How long is long range ???

I use a JVC 40x zoom but at 700yds it begins to loose focus, it struggles to find itself I think that a better sensor would improve things. I am looking at something a little better.

But for £140 its not bad at all apart from the extended range stuff.

Have a look at Panasonic the HV 510 or 520 I think it may be now, good reports from some folk

This one looks pretty good but a tad dearer. HC-W570EB-K Full HD

my cheapo caught the gong strikes out at 1000yds at diggle. I may upgrade one day but no rush at the mo.

Any of the Panasonic video cams will do it. They have lots of zoom, not expensive, and you can get them with either SD card only, or SD card and a Hard Disk built in. Good battery life, and massive zoom.

If auto focus isn't upto the job at range, you can switch it to manual focus too
