Morning gents and gentesses!!

I have just acquired a Beretta S686 Special for a good price (I think so anyway) but that price is reflected in its condition, it is a bit tatty. :/

I want to tidy it up a bit how much would it cost me to have the barrells re-blued and the woodwork re done?

How can I find out a bit more about the gun?

I also want to put steel shot through it, I can't see a fleur de lys anywhere and I can see a number 70 so am I right in thinking I can only use normal steel and not HP steel and 2.75" carts and not the 3" carts?

I have the chance to go duck and goose shooting later in the year, given the info above what carts would you recommend for duck / goose.

Cheers :good:

Steve

it would help to post a picture of the barrel inscriptions and flats. The S686 special is a modern action, so high performance isn't an issue, but if it is only 2 3/4" chambered then that will be a bit limiting. Also, how is it choked?

For geese you'll want to look at tungsten matrix or ITX. Kent had a 2 3/4" with 32g or 36g of #2 which is a good load. For ducks it depends if your'e talking foreshore or flight ponds. For flight ponds, a 32g #4 load of steel would be cost effective. I think there is a 70mm load for that, but only if you're not choked too tight.

thanks,

rick

Look up stockworks on facebook. He quotes around £90 for a refinish on stocks and forend and his work looks fantastic. My local gun smith wants 150quid for rebluing my side by side. So by there prices about 250 for the two
