Lefty gunz
I went out today for the 3rd day of reccying 2 of my shoots for pigeon activity and got my best pigeon bag........a total of 5 read it and weep poeple LOL. I know its pretty pathetic but there isnt huge numbers of pieons down here, well if there is i cant find them. Anyway, Im happy with that, got 2 birds in two shots on the wing and was well chuffed and as i was rolling a celebratory ciggy another landed right infront of me so he got it too. Some were landing in a grass field next to where I was so i sneaked over to have a look through the hedge and there was about 10 i spose just eating something in the grass. I tried to get them in the air by clapping and they didnt budge, then I threw stones over the hedge and even a branch In the end i just blasted them on the deck (not very sporting i know) 2 never flew again and are now in the freezer. After 3 days of watching i havnt managed to work out what there patterns are, they seem to be feeding on random grassy fields and i havnt identified any flight lines. There seems to be little point in setting up my decoys and sitting about all day hoping something will happen by. Oh well, still got the rest of the week off work to keep trying. Cranfield
As you said, you are happy with what you got and thats what matters. Its not everyone that goes out and shoots 100 birds a trip. I suspect the pigeons on the grassland may have been after the clover. Its noticeable where I live, that as the rape is getting higher, a lot of the birds are on the meadows for the clover. Lefty gunz
You are right about the clover, they all had a crop full of it. To be honest i wouldnt know what to do with 100 odd birds, theres only so many you can eat and i find friends are reluctant to eat anything that hasnt been reared in appalling conditions, fed on genetically modified foods and then conveniently pre-prepared and wrapped:(
