tiny tim Posted July 19, 2015 Report Share Posted July 19, 2015 we have a patch of cover crop ,about 1/2 acre on the side of a wood and are considering a different cover crop . the ground is a bit wet and pretty heavy <lot of clay> we have always grown maize but fancy a change any ideas? ColinF Posted July 19, 2015 Report Share Posted July 19, 2015 We've never had much luck growing kale. It's needs a good seed bed, quite a bit of fertiliser and good conditions to get going. Once it comes up, it gets hammered by flea beetle, pigeons and rabbits. ditchman Posted July 20, 2015 Report Share Posted July 20, 2015 when i was young and on the beating line ...we had to go thro' a variety of kale called "marrowstem"....it grew about 6-7ft tall and you got soaked to the skin when flushing birds out.................all the beaters hated it...
